In Islam, it is “authorised for men to beat their wives!” and it is presented as the last thing to do when there is no other alternative….And the prophet did not beat any of his wives….
How the knowledgeable of you can explain this to me?
I feel uncomfortable with the idea that a human being can be violent with another in a moment of anger
Islam ask us to never let anger control us…

Dear Khouloud, a religion teaches believers be perfect huan beigs, but not every believer follow rules of his religion.

Yes, some men beat and being rough with their wifes. A woman is weak being, so when a man is angry that's very easy to beat someone who is weaker than him.

Realigion ask us to control everything bad inside us, but are we always able to do that. In other hand we should be all saints.

Surah-e-Nisa

"Men are (meant to be righteous and kind) guardians of women because God has favored some more than others and because they (i.e. men) spend out of their wealth. (In their turn) righteous women are (meant to be) devoted and to guard what God has (willed to be) guarded even though out of sight (of the husband). As for those (women) on whose part you fear ill-will and nasty conduct, admonish them (first), (next) separate them in beds (and last) beat them. But if they obey you, then seek nothing against them. Behold, God is most high and great. (4:34)

According to Some fuqaha opinion beating is permissible but not advisable.

According to some traditions the Prophet said in his famous and well-attended speech on the occasion of his farewell pilgrimage that the beating done according to the present verse should be ghayr mubarrih, i.e. in such a way that it should not cause injury, bruise or serious hurt. On this basis some scholars like Tabari and Razi say even that it should be largely symbolic and should be administered "with a folded scarf" or "with a miswak or some such thing". However, to be effective in its purpose of shaking the wife out of her nasty mood it is important that it should provide an energetic demonstration of the anger, frustration and love of the husband. In other words, it should neither seriously hurt the wife nor reduce it to a set of meaningless motions devoid of emotions.

Quran is the word of God and is thus every word in it is full of wisdom and love. To be apologetic about any part of the Quran is to lack both knowledge and faith.

This subject has been dealt with several times in the past. Basically Wife beating is to do with men who want to suppress women hence they misinterpreted certain hadith and the verses of the Quran to their needs. Like many other thing the ignorant and inferior minded people are expected to grow out of such practices. Only the weakest among men will resort to beating their wives and women

Brother Gull the verse within the passage is not calling for or authorizing any notion of beating in a physical sense. Through out centuries some have misinterpreted it. Prophet Mohammad(SAW) did not beat his wives even with a miswak so where are the Sunnah followers when it come to this point? Why is it when it comes to their women they need any kind of justification to beat them? It seems like Ulemah have been apologetic about their need for beating rather then read the passage in the correct light with wisdom.

I know all this Gull, but still my Question is:
DO you really have the right to beat women? Is it right?
sometimes the response i get is that "some women" do not understand or do not do right till you show violnece with them! but still am not convainced!
and what feeds my doubts is that the prophet never did it!!!

Nobody seems to look to the Sunnah regarding the beating, Worst they all are accepting the verse and even giving some advices on how if it happens the beating should be!!
Frankly, it makes me feel women are more considered as devils by those who interprete Quran!!

Domestic violence is a global problem we cannot say that any religion of world encourage that they beat their wives, it is very unfair that some time we link weakness of our personal character and behavior to religion...

MURDER . Every day four women die in this country as a result of domestic violence, the euphemism for murders and assaults by husbands and boyfriends. That's approximately 1,400 women a year, according to the FBI. The number of women who have been murdered by their intimate partners is greater than the number of soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.

BATTERING . Although only 572,000 reports of assault by intimates are officially reported to federal officials each year, the most conservative estimates indicate two to four million women of all races and classes are battered each year. At least 170,000 of those violent incidents are serious enough to require hospitalization, emergency room care or a doctor's attention.

SEXUAL ASSAULT . Every year approximately 132,000 women report that they have been victims of rape or attempted rape, and more than half of them knew their attackers. It's estimated that two to six times that many women are raped, but do not report it. Every year 1.2 million women are forcibly raped by their current or former male partners, some more than once.

THE TARGETS . Women are 10 times more likely than men to be victimized by an intimate. Young women, women who are separated, divorced or single, low- income women and African-American women are disproportionately victims of assault and rape. Domestic violence rates are five times higher among families below poverty levels, and severe spouse abuse is twice as likely to be committed by unemployed men as by those working full time. Violent attacks on lesbians and gay men have become two to three times more common than they were prior to 1988.

IMPACT ON CHILDREN . Violent juvenile offenders are four times more likely to have grown up in homes where they saw violence. Children who have witnessed violence at home are also five times more likely to commit or suffer violence when they become adults.

IMPACT ON HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES . Women who are battered have more than twice the health care needs and costs than those who are never battered. Approximately 17 percent of pregnant women report having been battered, and the results include miscarriages, stillbirths and a two to four times greater likelihood of bearing a low birth weight baby. Abused women are disproportionately represented among the homeless and suicide victims. Victims of domestic violence are being denied insurance in some states because they are considered to have a "pre-existing condition."

Khouloud, they have been telling woman to shut up since 1300 years because they do not like Woman to ever be equal with man regardless of the propaganda. Just like the Evil Christian Church and their anti woman antics. The Mullahs and Priests allow eachother to share this honor with eachother and co-operate to suppress woman with sexist interpretation of Bible and Quran. Woman can be quite frustrating according to me, but Man can be arrogantly worse. When Prophet Muhammad(saw) was alive, he had even allowed Woman to come to the mosque, but after his death, the hypocrites Arabs snatched back their power which Prophet Muhammad(saw) had taken away from them. The biggest Dajjal in the history of the world could not be anyone else other than the Ulama.
